Hokkaido Buffet on Stevens Creek Boulevard in San Jose offers a straightforward buffet experience centered on Japanese and Asian-inspired dishes. Locals and visitors alike come here for the sushi offerings, particularly the mix of sashimi, California rolls, and sushi combos, which stand out as some of the more consistently satisfying items on the menu. While the quality of sashimi tends to sit in the middle ground—better than supermarket options but not quite premium—it's clear that the variety is a big draw.

The buffet is a practical spot for those wanting to sample a range of flavors without committing to a single dish. Beyond sushi, the selection includes hot items like fried shrimp, dim sum, and classic sides such as steamed rice and fried rice, making it suitable for diners looking to balance fresh sushi with warm, comfort-style plates. Fresh fruit options offer a lighter counterpoint amidst the savory choices.

The atmosphere tends to be casual and family-friendly, suitable for group dining or casual outings. Service is attentive, with staff regularly clearing tables to keep the dining area comfortable through busy periods. Pricing sits at a reasonable level for the local market, though some patrons note that senior discounts feel a bit on the higher side compared to other regions.

This place works best for those who want a no-fuss meal with a decent sushi bar as part of a broader buffet spread. It’s especially convenient for groups with varied tastes—whether craving sushi, seafood items like clams and crabs, or simple Asian comfort foods. Midday or early evening visits tend to be the easiest times to enjoy the full buffet without peak crowd delays, especially for popular items like raw oysters.

Overall, Hokkaido Buffet offers a practical, somewhat informal dining option along a busy San Jose corridor, where the variety and steady sushi options make it a reliable stop for casual diners who appreciate choice more than high-end refinement.

Great sushi selection. Nice variety. Interesting how certain entries are on plates. Senior discount - price on the upper side, but then we are used to Ithaca NY prices.

Hot dishes are so-so but nice that they have sushi bars. The sushi rolls are pretty good and would be similar to those I can get from the supermarket. Seafood (clams, crabs) are are nice too. Good for the price.

I was visiting my friend in San Jose, California and she invited me to this restaurant. Their food is pretty good and delicious. So many different options. Our server was so nice and cleaned our table any time that we were on another round of getting more food. We enjoyed our time there!!

The price is great for the varieties of food available for selection although the quality of the sashimi is just okay. Also, the serving of raw oysters is very slow and limited in quantity. Overall, it is still a location that offers quite a good value for money.

It is a quick stop with lots of variety. Not the best quality, but plentiful and decent for the price.
